Driving to work the other day I saw this “Bolt” & snapped this picture. Later when I looked at it I noticed the hood ornament. So I looked through the gallery and couldn’t find one
In there with the same hood ornament. I know it’s hard to see maybe I’ll drive by in the morning and see if it there again. And take a better picture of it. Is it right for a “Task Force” pick up?

It is possible it is a non-standard (for Task Force trucks) hood ornament. It could just be one someone had from who know what.

Those are the 1957 only genuine Chevrolet Hood Rockets.

The 1955-56 Hood ornament was a 22" wide airplane with a single tail fin sticking up (see attached).

No hood ornament was offered for 1958 or 59.

Thanks for the quick response. I looked at many trucks in the gallery and didn’t see any hood ornaments.

Here’s a better picture of the hood ornament.

Not factory installed. Dealer option. Very rare. Some folks use olds rockets, similar to Chevy.

I have seen them on 57 Cameo's. Maybe was a factory option on them.

A hood ornament (Ornament Unit) is listed as an accessory in 1957.

An accessory was installed by the dealer or by the owner.

I had a hood ornament on my 54 when I got it. I gave it away.Like this.

That was generous of you Ron. If you can find an original in decent condition they go for $200 and up. I bought one that is in good shape but still has the pitting/raised pimples for $180 and felt I got a steal. That style hood ornaments seem to be in higher demand than a lot of the others.

Yes, Dave but not knowing any better I disposed of a lot of things that could have been of use to someone. A lot of the stuff that was serviceable I have no idea where they went. I have new fenders on the rear but to pay someone to fix was more expensive so I bought new and the bodyman asked what to do with the old ones and I said I don't care.

Now about those hubcaps on that truck...

They look like S/10 hub caps to me.

I don't know why, but I have always liked those hubcaps. I guess that it is from the harsh contrast created by the black, making the bow tie stand out.

Actually, GMC was offered a dealer installed hood bird as pictured below. Very rare for sure!

The OP was asking about hood rockets he saw on a 1957 Chevrolet, so my comment was just about Chevrolet's, not GMC's.

Your GMC hood bird is rare and looks like the same one offered here in the States for the 58/59 GMC's.
