Gentlemen,

I would like to adapt a 216 motor and do away with the stock 207.

I have a few questions that I am unable to find definitive answers to and hoping you can help.

1. Will a 216 accept the existing mounting positions?

2. Is a 1937 bellhousing necessary when converting to a 216 to keep the existing pedals or will the 216 mount to the 1936 bellhousing with no modifications?

3. Will any modifications be needed to the rear engine cross-member?

Thanks!

Someone else will know the answer to your clear and pertinent question, Sergio

However, if you are getting rid of your original engine, why not put in a 235 (or, 261)?
One logical answer would be "because I already have a 216 available"?

Few friends of mine have done this swap. 216 and 235, used 1938 bell housing(truck bell housing also may work) and 38 crossmember at back and kept original floor shift trans. Another guy had to modify the rear of pan a bit for clearance. Need a bell housing that bolts to what ever trans you will use. Id also use an engine with the 216 style water pump or you can purchase an adaptor to fit 216 water pump on later 235.
Hope this helps
Best of luck
Here's a T-5 trans adapted to 46 pickup bellhsg, engine 261.

Sergio,

I've had this '36 Chevy PU since 1965. Will you have any original parts to dispose of when your project is done, like perhaps a gas tank? I've made some upgrades on my '36 in the decades I've owned it like converting the rear gears from 4.11 to 3.55 and adding a tandem master cylinder for improved safety.
