Good day, Gents.
I've just about finished this project. Started it 6? years ago and derailed for a time with cancer which slowed things down a lot. But, finally I am into the short rows.
The truck is not really shiftless, but when shifting to "Granny" or 3rd, the shifter knob bangs into the dash. In 1st, it is prevented from fully engaging, other than that, it is just hazardous to my knuckles. Any possibility for adjustment? or is bending the shifter the answer. Anyone else encountered this? Any suggestions appreciated and seriously considered. Thanks in advance for your experience. Will post some new pictures when I find new host.

You don’t say if the transmission is original to the truck. It sounds to me like a torch is the answer if no adjustment is found.🛠

The truck is all original. You are probably right...Not being a smith, unsure of how torch will affect the metal and how much heat will be needed. Machinist friend suggested this evening that a 3 point fixture with hydraulic jack might work. There is a visible bow in the upper section of the shift rod. Since he is willing to fabricate the fixture, will probably try it. Maybe with additional application of heat.. may be the answer.
I have a shop manual, but as is usually the case, I can't find it; even though I have used it in the last month.

A fixture and a jack would require no heat.🛠 This situation probably comes from many years of banging the shifter towards the dash instead of gently moving it forward.

Also possible not original transmission or shifter stick at this point.

Bend it cold as first preference, or hot if necessary.

Thanks to all for advice. Poor folks have poor ways - piece of 2x4, length of chain and small bottle jack. A few awkward moments trying to get it all in place while pumping the jack..now have about 2 inches of clearance with tranny in granny between knob and ash tray .

Nice truck and shifter adjustment tool. If theres a will, theres a way.

Nothing redneck about that fix! That was slick, if not also elegant. I may have to use that for a Tech Tip, if you don't mind.
