Hi

I'm new to this forum, but not new to old trucks. I am looking at doing a project that I have not done before and have not seen done, although I am sure someone has done it.

What I want to do is transform my 56 Suburban into an expedition rig that is capable of driving back roads without shaking itself apart.Something to haul Kayaks, KTM's and fishing poles. I want to put independant suspension under it that is capable of long travel, say 10", so the ride will be plush, and a little back road work won't hurt the truck.

The rear is no problem, but I need to get the front worked out first as that will dictate the height of the rear. I have looked at the Dakota conversion but that drops the front automaticly 2", which is going in the wrong direction. I want to raise the truck at least 4" above stock so I can get a little taller tire under it so as to smooth out the ride off pavement.

If any of you guys know of such a project, or can remember of one in a magazine I sure would appreciate it if you could let me know.

Thanks......................................Larry

The only thing I can think of is maybe put it on a late model frame and use fabtech's 2 wheel drive lift kits. Someone on this board is putting an old sub on a (i think) 2000 chevy or gmc truck frame, so it can be done.

Jeff

Thanks for the reply, but I am committed to working with the original frame. I have never seen a frame swap that looked "clean". Besides, I have an off-road racing background so I am not totally lost if I have to start from scratch. I was just hoping not to have to invest that much time. The new dodge ram a arms look good, nice and beefy and long. I'm going to find one to borrow and put it on the hoist aso I can take some measurements.

Must work...................................Larry
