The new computer is much more versatile than the old projection and can be run closed loop and programmed with a laptop. The whole setup is about $1400. You can use it with a turbo, too.

I thought I would give a suggestion I haven't seen here yet. An article in 4 Wheel & Offroad showed a TBI swap on a '70 Toyota FJ40. Now before you start yelling, the straight 6 they use is basically a 235. Turbo City offers the kit minus the distributor. The kit is really a system off a 90's S-10 w/4.3 V6. They got the electronic distributor from Up and Over Innovations which is a modified GM distributor. I haven't researched it much more, but it seems like a cheap swap if you use a donor S-10. You might need the intake off the Toyota or use any 2 barrel intake. The kit has a throttle body to intake adaptor which they might sell seperate. I plan on doing this swap on my '48 after I scrounge up the parts. If anybody wants to see the article, email me & I can fax it to you. If I figure out the scanner I might be able to send it email. I will post more when I get more specific info.

Even if you use one of the fuel injection tuner places to make you a custom chip, the junkyard parts would be a lot cheaper than buying a kit from somebody. There is info all over the web on adapting GM fuel injection systems to all sorts of engines, and TBI systems are a dime a dozen in every junkyard I have ever seen. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 23 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 23 | Yeah, GMCPanel. I meant that I was going to build my own. I can't see paying more than what I paid for my truck for something I can find in salvage yards cheap. I am surprised that I haven't seen any TBI's on this site. Wouldn't it make a great tech article? I can't be the only one who didn't know Toyota used the 235 all through the 70's. It's a good place to look for parts like alternator brackets, distributors, heads, etc. I know I'm checking the yards this weekend. My truck is missing most of the underhood stuff and needs to upgraded to 12v, so it's a perfect time to do TBI. Wonder how many problems I'll run into? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks. Scott
