A little intro about me. I was a mechanic by trade and did that for a living for 13 or so years. Now I'm a crane operator.

Originally from Southern California. For the last few years, we have been residing in Nebraska (Beaver Lake -- about 25 miles south of Omaha -- really fun for the whole 3 months of boating season we get for the last few years).

Have had a few classic project vehicles (1967 Dodge Dart and 1964 Ford F250).

My wife and I recently inherited a 1950 GMC 1/2 ton 100 5-window. I plan on keeping it mostly stock ... mostly.

It came with a 216. Whoever put it together oversized the cylinders and put stock pistons and rings in it. Thing ran great with an oil pan full of gas and a solid stream of blowby. Surprised it ran at all.

Anyways, when pulling it apart, the front cam bearing took part of the block with it. So now I have a 235 full pressure being machined. Have a Cliffords 6=8 dual carb/intake and headers for it.

Also had plans to put a 283 that I'm putting together in it along with IFS but then I found the 235 and threw all my plans off.

Maybe get an old something or other to rat rod and put the 283 in.

Anyways, I'll be asking alot of questions. Don't know much about the old sixes. Didn't even know they were really a thing until we got this truck.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Right on lincoln is pretty cool. Hey so just checking, is this forum only for old trucks?? I also have a 55 bel air im restoring. Should i not post pics or anything of that here? I put a pic of the 50 gmc on the dity forum. I have that one about done just have to install the engine. Sanding down the clifford intake so i can polish it. Have heard good and not so good things about clifford performance. The guy seemed nice enough to me when i was talking to him. But holy hell for $1900 i got a bare cast aluminum intake...

You are correct. Only trucks. Now if the ‘55 Bel Air happened to be in the background of a shot of the ‘50 GMC I’m sure no one would complain too loudly. thumbs_up

No engine or trans came with it. But i have a 283 that im almost done building... that's why i bought the bel air. Actually worked out well convincing the wife i needed a bel air... i was like well i put all this money in the 283 and i need something to put it in. She went along with it which was astonishing.. got a friend with a th350 he will give me, and i have a 3 speed manual laying in a corner. OH YA i have a bunch of random original parts off the GMC i pulled off i may be down to part with. Intake, headers air cleaners extra transmission extra glass, wiring, brand new gmc center caps.. lots of stuff maybe ill post them.

Welcome to the 'bolt. Fortunately, there are a lot of similarities betwixt old chevys.

Another quality post.
