Hi Members. Can anyone tell me if I have the correct spare tire rack for a 49 Chevy 1/2 pickup? And are all the parts here in the photo? Also a diagram or phot on how it’s attached on the underside would be helpful. Thanks for whatever knowledge you can pass on. I’m ready to toss the spare tire in back of the truck and call it a day!!
What you have is a '51 and later spare carrier. It mounts diagonally under the frame with two crossbars (you have one of them). You're also missing the bracket that mounts in two of the row of holes opposite the large plate. It goes in the set of holes that match the wheel size. Here's a photo of the bracket. [on edit] it appears from looking at the FAM, that bracket is only used on larger trucks, not 1/2 and 3/4 tons.
If you have a Factory Assembly Manual, Section 10, Sheet 2.0 has a diagram of how it mounts. The end that you have attached to the crossbar goes on the driver's side of the frame, and the wider end goes toward rear on the passenger side.
I think you could use it unless you're looking for a year-correct one like Harold posted above.

Thanks Members. You’ve answered my questions. I’ll try to fit the rack as long as I can find the parts I’m missing. Just wondering does anyone know where I could get the correct rack as shown in Harold’s photo?

LOL, but seriously, I remember Chevs of the 40's was selling very nice reproductions of this rack (I'm using one of theirs under my '50). Not available right now but it sounds like there might be another reproduction cycle.
