I am working on my 48 3600 with a 292 in it. I currently have an electric puller fan, because the water pump sits so low compared to the radiator. I would like to get rid of the electric fan noise though.

One thought was to look for an adapter plate similar to the 235 plate that raises the water pump. I haven't had any luck finding one though. Does anyone know if one is made? or have any other suggestions to get rid of the electric fan?

Thanks
Jon

Just wondering do you run the fan all the time or is it temperature controlled? The ones I've seen with temp relays on them don't seem to run that much.

Mine runs all the time. Maybe I am gun shy about it overheating. I will look at the temperature controllers, but would like to get away from the electric fan completely.

I have never seen a riser for the water pumps, I just lowered the radiator to help center the fan to the core.

Why not make a shroud to fit around the fan and draw air through the whole radiator? It's pretty basic sheet metal work that most anybody can do with a little planning, a pair of tin snips, and a rivet gun.

I believe that I saw Jon's truck at Home Coming. His radiator/water pump misalignment is pretty severe. I don't think that a homemade shroud alone will work unless he can lower the radiator 3-4 inches.
I lowered my radiators to solve the same issue with a '49 and a '52 3100 with 350 V8s. It required cutting, reshaping and re-welding the bottom corners of the radiator support.
pre-68 Dave makes the water pump relocation plates for the later model 235s for the AD trucks. Maybe you can PM him and pick his brain about making one for a 292.

I have a duel fan controller that you can adjust on off temp, delay time on and off and set it to cut off and on at a given speed. I'm running 2 separate cooling systems and it will control them with individual settings.

How about mounting a fan on pillow blocks and an auxiliary shaft, and leaving the water pump in its original location? Flathead Ford V8's used a system like that, with one belt driving both water pumps and the generator, and another belt for the fan. Any kind of electric fan system, no matter how sophisticated or gimmicky, is no substitute for an engine-driven fan.

Thanks for the ideas! The crankshaft and the water pump both have 2 belt grooves, so a separate fan shaft may be fairly simple. I also read about someone using a cookie sheet for their fan shroud. It would be a good starting point.

Thanks for the shove in the right direction!

If yours is like mine, the lower radiator hose will be a problem with the fan low and radiator high.
