Hello All!
I am looking for information on scrap yards and junkyards and any other kind of yards that are full of old trucks/cars/vans/suburbans.

I am located in Rhode Island and everything around me is rotting. I want to find stuff in the midwest, west, but it is hard to find on the internet unless you know people. Figured this is a good starting point.

Let me know!

are you looking specifically for big bolt stuff, or just any old car/truck yard? This may get more visibility in the spoon. We have a couple here, but again, they have a bit of everything.

Mostly big bolt stuff...
But then again it doesn't take much to feed the addiction.
I also love looking for rare old cool cars/trucks

Here in the Mid-Atlantic area most of the old junk yards were cleaned out when scrap prices went through the roof about 2006. Here in Maryland the tax man forces the yards to purge the older stuff out or pay up, so not much of anything over 10 years old left to pick...it's all big business now.

I was recently at a place in Wymore Nebraska, just a bit south of Lincoln. The old guy has a ton of old stuff. The owner looks to be my age, and some of the stuff he has is older yet.I was able to find a complete front bumper with apron, frame brackets and license bracket for my '51 there. About died dragging it out of the yard thru the mud. I think my feet weighed 10 lb each at one point from the mud caked on my shoes. LOL.
Address is 2784 E Sage Rd. Wymore, NE. I have a card with the phone # somewhere, but it's buried at the moment.
[on edit] Found his contact info. Business name is Watts Repair and Salvage. Owner Louis Watts, Phone (402)645-8066

I would search in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma. Farm country, lots of grain trucks, farm trucks, etc. I used to live in Missouri, and know there are many more junkyards and you see a lot more old trucks sitting in fields and beside barns than in Mississippi.

Agreed. We just drove thru Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, etc. and saw lots of them. Like Patrick said, a lot of onesies in the farms, and usually the bigger trucks. Even up in Alaska, the larger trucks seem to be more common.

I remember a couple of big junkyards, one in Calwood Missouri and one in Cabool Missouri. I know there are more. You might look them up and call. Get ready to deal with stubborn rednecks that don't have the time of day for you. and would rather see a perfectly good truck rot into the dirt than sell it to you.

When I traveled through Montana, North and South Dakota, and a few other far northwest states, I was amazed at the number of well-preserved big bolts I saw sitting abandoned (or at least retired) on the farms up there. The problem would be getting any of them back to Tennessee without a flatbed 18-wheeler! I guess there's something about the weather up there that keeps them in good condition.

They better not try that around here. I have an antique salvage yard. The last presidential administration mentioned something about that around the same time as the "Clunker Bill" and I was ready to fight it, but it got dropped. Everything I have is 1973 and older. Mostly cars though, very few trucks.

The one in Cabool, MO hasn't taken in anything "new" in many years. I stumbled across two beds for my Chevy 1 1/2 ton that Farmer Bubba had taken the tailgate off one and the front panel off the other and connected them together to haul migrant workers around, I presume. They both had full sets of troop seats and top bows. Got them both for $400. Spent more than that going to pick them up and back to Winston, GA

Always trying to find stuff!

I need to find some time to go out west and drive around to try and find some gems in a field.

Plan a trip to any non-rust belt states, look there, the cost of bringing something home will be way cheaper than labor to restore? a a rusty body.
