Hi All
I have a 1950 1/2 ton and trying to adjust my cowl vent. The brackets welded on the cab that the cowl vent attaches to is a hinge correct? It suppose to rotate, mine seem to be seized but it a little hard to see how it works. Anyone have a video of it operating correctly?

Directions for adjusting your vent are in the following slide set. I would advise let go on the bolts, they are unique and snap easily if rusted.

Can someone post a picture of an installed vent from under the dash?
I need to know how the top part of the vent connects to the support bracket.
It looks like I will need to fabricate one side of the support bracket since mine is missing.

JD1, The vent itself has a pivot arm that hangs down. It is connected to a similar looking arm which points upward that is connected to the lower vent support brace/handle assembly. My rig is so cluttered under the dash, it would be hard to see the bracket assembly via a pic. Maybe that's why it drives so well

Here, I googled and found a decent pic of the assembly. The vent's slotted arm connect's to the lower assembly's slotted arm.

My vent has a L bracket on each side of the vent. Does this L bracket mount to another L dash bracket via a bolt and nut on each side?
The bracket underneath my dash is long gone and I think I need to fabricate something to get the vent to be functional.

JD1, I had to coach my vent back into working condition. Main problem was many years of non-use. I'm currently on the road but will post up a photo within the next 48 hours.

Here's a couple pics of my vent. The vent's arms connect to the pivoting arms which their base is welded to the cowl. Hopefully the pics help. Please note that the pivoting points are I believe riveted, yet one of mine has a bolt and nut. This is from the rivet breaking and so I simply drilled out the broken rivet and grabbed an extra bolt and nut.

I have two 3100 1/2 tons, both now have Steele rubber products seals, all others on the market appear to be too Hard .....FWIW--Bill

Perfect, that is just what I needed. Now I have to fabricate a piece and rig something up to make it work. I'll have to drill out the rivet and make a L bracket for one side of the base.

Did you mount the seal on the vent itself? I've seen people mount it on the cowl or the vent.

It mounts on a recess in the cowl, the edge of the vent seals to it.

Well. I fixed the cowl vent today. I had to fabricate a part, but it went together great.
I received the gasket from Steele Rubber and the adhesive. I'll take the vent out and mount the gasket next.

But I'm not sure how the gasket installs into the cowl recess. There is an inside and outside area of the cowl recess, but it doesn't really fit perfectly in either.
How is the gasket supposed to fit in that cowl recess?

I talked to Steele today. They stated the flat side of the gasket should go on the bottom. The gasket should sit in the outside channel snug against the chimney of the inside channel.
