I want air conditioning and have installed a Vintage Air compressor bracket on the front of the motor passenger side. It is directly over the hole for the distributor. A standard HEI distributor for a 250 will not fit in that location because there is only 6 3/4" clearance space between the bottom of the bracket and the hole for the distributor. Any suggestions on what type or brand distributor that I can use that will fit in the tight space?

You may try a dist cap for a 76 nova that does not have the coil on the cap, it is shorter and may fit.Then of course you will need an external coil.

Whittling and welding on steel isn't rocket science.
