51-53 AD truck and I have new drums for it. I’ve read the manual and I’m pretty sure I know what/ how to remove the drum from the hub, but of course a picture(s) says so much more. I’m curious about the peening procedure.

Any pictures? Help?

Thanks Bolters.

First you need to back off on the Brake adjustment. Then the hub should fall off.

Once you remove the old drum by drilling or grinding the rivets away, it's not really necessary to re-rivet the new ones. If you want to hold the drum and hub together, just tap the rivet holes for flat head machine screws and countersink the holes so the screw heads are flush with the surface.

That's a pretty good idea, Jerry. I assume it's safe to drive with it this way as the rim is going to hold everything together once torqued up. What size would you recommend? Thanks.

I believe those rivets are 1/4" diameter. If so, the hole in the hub flange once the rivet is knocked out is just right for a 5/16-18 tap. Tap the holes, use a countersink to bevel the hole in the drum, and attach the drum to the hub with short flat head screws. Yes, the lug bolts will hold everything together OK if you choose not to bolt the drums on.

What are Y'all talking about? Now I've had my front end down to the axle and didn't drill a thing.

There's 3 rivets that hold the drum to the hub. In order to replace the drum, those have to be removed to separate the drum from the hub.
