hello everone. i have owned my 1952 gmc truck for 35 years and had to replace engine. bought a chev rebuilt out of a 56 chev.motor has had a total rebuilt no mony spared. i went to install it today and im out one and a quater inches to short. i need help . my truck was bought new in california. is there a difference in a chev motor to a gmc. i may be now looking for a gmc motor , please help
Most people just bolt a piece of steel plate to the front crossmember to move the motor mount back. Putting a GMC engine in a Chevy truck is the hard way- - - -gotta move the radiator forward, etc. Jerry

my truck is american , my uncle bought it new in L A. i thought of making a plate but seems odd to me i would have to see a picture. does anyone know what the lenght is of a proper 235. my chev block is 27 and a half inch.have any of you seen a gmc 235 for sale. i think ill sell this motor and start over. but i need to know for sure how to tell i have the correct one this time. i screwd up this time lol. got to excited with my find
There is no such thing as a GMC 235. You might have a 228, a 248, or maybe a 270. Look at the stamped number behind the distributor- - - -the first three digits are the engine size. Jerry

Of course some Canadian GMC models did come with 235s... and 216s. Just saying. To use those USA designed engines probably required a different front crossmember. But you said it's a USA truck. So it came with a 228, 248 or 270... and thus the need for the adapter plate. Or swap crossmembers from a Chevy. Tim or somebody has a good graphic showing the differences in the crossmembers. Tim?
thankyou so much for everyones help.i thiught the truck had a 216 that i took out.but frank cleared that up. i know its a usa truck so i was wrong with 216. the motor i have that rebuilt is out of a 56 chev car number on block is 9173453. i got this by distribute . tclederrman photo of cross member is so correct mine is the gmc. how to i go about getting a chevy cross member that would be my solution. god i cant thank you all for your help
