Hello all,
I'm struggling with something that should be easy.
Both my front wheel bearing dust caps fell off when I drove it around the block and I'm trying to locate replacements for my stock 1954 Chev 3100 truck.
Of course I cannot find them on the road.

I found a set that looked like they would fit based upon measurements.
When I received the dust caps, they are about 1/8" too small.
Look at the attached picture. The packaging indicates 2.18" diameter, but the actual measurement is 2.08".
I now have 4 sets of dust caps that indicate they are for a 1954 chev 3100 truck. All are too small.
All hardware I've bought so far has fit correctly - wheel bearings, brakes, wheel cylinder.

I have measured the ID of the hub and it's 2.13", which converts to 54.1mm.
What could be wrong? I don't think the hubs are off anything different, but now starting to have doubts. Yes- they are 6 lug hubs.

It would be great if some one with a 1954 Chev 3100 could measure the ID of their hubs for comparison.
Thanks

I received a pair from Jim Carter and they fit ok. If you want originals check Epay.

I have checked Jim Carter and cannot find anything. I don't need originals - just need something that will fit.
Could you provide the details of what you bought from Jim Carter truck parts?

What was the part number?

I have bought 2 of those sets from Classic Chevy thinking they shipped the wrong parts.
They are Mr Gasket part number 2486 .....package indicates 2.18" but they actually measure 2.08".(see picture in first post)
Have contacted Mr. Gasket and awaiting for a response.

Will continue looking for 54mm dust caps.

Fired up the 3D printer and printing a set now. If they fit - I could use as is out of ABS, or print locally out of metal.

Also Taking the metal parts to a local muffler shop trying to stretch them a little .

Took the under sized dust caps to a muffler shop and had them stretched.

Now to buy the new rims and hub caps to fit.

Looking at buying the Wheel Vintiques Series 12 smoothie and hub caps.
Wheel
https://www.wheelvintiques.com/acces...ap-47-198.html

SKU 12-660604
16x 6 , 6 lug 5.5" bolt circle, 4" backspace

Chevy Hub Caps
SKU 2030A

I'm curious if anyone has used these on a stock 1954 Chev 3100.

What did those wheels fit, originally? The center hole is too big, making the studs carry the full weight of the vehicle instead of just holding the wheel on, the studs appear to be almost too short, and the lug nuts seem to be on the verge of pulling themselves through the holes in the wheel. The original equipment lug studs are 7/16-20 thread with 3/4" wrench flats. If you're going to continue to run those wheels, I'd suggest going to a lug nut with 13/16" flats to give them a little safer bite on the wheel taper. 7/16-20 studs should be torqued to no more than 65-70 ft/lbs. to avoid stretching and/or breaking the studs.

Your link to Wheel Vintiques doesn't work properly for me. It doesn't look like they have the correct 54-55.5 cap anyway.

Jegs shows SKU 2030A: https://www.jegs.com/i/Wheel-Vintiques/939/2030-A/10002/-1

Should look like this: https://www.chevsofthe40s.com/detail/6410/Chevrolet_Hub_Cap_1954_12_Ton_Superior_Quality.html

Of course, maybe you prefer the earlier cap?

I just bought this truck and need to get those rims and tires off the truck. I don't know what they came off of.
I'm looking for original looking wheels for it. 16" x 6 and hub caps.
I've been torquing to 70 ft/ibs.

Link to wheel vintiques.

I don't care where the rims and caps come from as long as they fit. I'm looking for the original look of a farm truck. I'm keeping all original
drive train - thus will not be going over 45 MPH.
The hub cap doesn't need to look like the original - just want hub caps that fit the rims. No chrome rims - painted. Hub caps could be chrome or painted.

So I'm looking at the wheel vintiques series 12 smoothie and hub cap that will fit.
I'd like to hear from anyone else that has used this combination on a stock truck.
Measurements have been sent tot Wheel Vintiques for fitment.

Image below is the look I'm going for .......Black rims ....chrome chevrolet caps .....
