Stupid question, but does anyone have a diagram or photo of the proper way to install the rubber gasket/seal for the cowl vent? I am on my second one as the first didn't seem to fit properly and the second one was fitting the exact same way until I studied it and decided to flip it over. But I'm still not sure if I have it right or wrong.
K clark--If you didn't buy from Steele rubber --Throw it out--it won't work.......B
I picked up the 2nd one today from Steele at the Auto Fair. It's the same as the first that I bought elsewhere but I'm thinking that I had it upside down. Like I said, I'm not sure if I am right or wrong.
Which cowl vent seal did you buy? The top or the side? I know it’s a stupid question but I’ve seen people do this before if their truck didn’t have the side vent.

I bought the top seal. Mine doesn't have side vents.
KClark - here's a couple pics of my 1954 3600 without and with the cowl vent seal placed into the channel. Click on the pics to enlarge them and to open in window that enables rotating the view.....Hopefully this helps........the seal is part number CB110 from Jim Carter. It appears to fit very well.

I just got the same seal today for my 3100 and I have the same question. Does it go in the inside or outside channel in cowl panel? The seal from Steele doesn't look like the one from Jim Carter.
I talked to Steele today. They stated the flat side of the gasket should go on the bottom. The gasket should sit in the outside channel snug against the chimney of the inside channel.
