Quick explanation:
I'm having an SM420 installed in my stock 3100 to replace the 3-speed column shift, and the rear bearing retainer/bellhousing is too large to connect to my factory torque tube. My question is, were there multiple sizes of bellhousings available? I bought a bellhousing (for torque tube connection) off of ebay and had it installed when I had my SM420 rebuilt by a transmission shop, but now they don't match up with the torque tube.

I am in need of this part for a 1/2 ton if anyone has a lead.

Thanks.

Would it be possible to use the ball end of the torque tube that fits your bearing retainer on the existing torque tube? Just a wild guess, but I'll bet the SM 420 used a different ball than the 3 speed. I've got a 51 GMC frame stashed away that had a 420 in it and the torque tube is still there. I'll get some photos and measurements as soon as I get back from a trip to Nashville.

Jerry helped me clarify what I need. What I need is the output flange/yoke for the torque tube 4-speed SM420 transmission, and also the U-joint for it. Anyone have one?

You might try posting your request in the Swap Meet, "Truck parts wanted" . That way a lot more folks will see your request.
