I've been trying to install my original SS exterior trim into a Steele front windshield gasket without much luck. I've got the glass installed on both sides and the assembly is lying flat on a table. I can get the outside with corners in but am struggling to complete the two inner ends into the pillar. Is there one method that works better than another? Should I attempt to slip the two ends in first up against the pillar, then proceed to the outside corners? I've been spraying it with soapy water also.
Well I think I finally figured out what my problem was! Evidently when the new "Steele" gas was bonded at the ends with the rubber gasket of the pillar there wasn't quite enough room to adequately install the SS trim. So to avoid gouging into the gasket to modify it , I slightly modified the ends of the SS Trim. Here are a few photos showing the small angle I cut off with a dremel. Fit is great now or I should say as good as it's gonna get!
Timely subject. My truck did not have the trim installed when I bought it and I've debated a couple times trying to install it without removing the windshields. Any words of encouragement.... anyway to do the job with the windshields inplace?
If you do however have the correct gasket installed to use the SS Trim I believe it would be almost impossible to install the trim while on the truck. Everything I have researched says to install the trim on a flat work surface prior to installing on the truck.
