So I bought this 1956 3800. Google search to find out what the vin might tell me, like what size 6 cylinder is in this truck, and found this forum.

I have been working as a light and medium duty truck mechanic for many years. This truck sure does take me back to a much more simpler time. I wanted something to take to the local car/truck shows and this is a good fit for me. I have been driving GM pickup trucks since 1974. The truck was living unused in a North Dakota barn or garage for many years. The transmission is stuck in first gear, and that is why it sat. The engine does run, the seller hooked a boat fuel tank to the carb and fired it up.

I'll start a thread and post my progress. Some things I remember, like point dwell should be about 40, but what is the part number for the oil filter??? I used to know that. VIN: 3G56Jxxxxxx

Turbo4whl, welcome to the Stovebolt and congrats on your truck. A truck is definitely a good thing to have.

Since this is the Welcome Centre its not recommended to ask technical questions here as not everyone come here.....ask the questions in the most appropriate garage forums and we'll do the rest.
.....we do have a Vin Buster in the tech tips. Guys and gals here will answer your question. Tons of info here.
See you around the garage.

What a great truck! Welcome aboard. Depending on where you are in PA, you might consider joining us for the "Homecoming" weekend gathering of Mid-Atlantic (and one South Pacific...) Stovebolters in Lexington, VA (Just a quick hop down I-81, right??) Love to meet you there. Several PA 'Bolters will be there, too.
