I made a home-made bumper hitch. When the truck is functional, it could be used for backing trailers/wagons into tight places. It can also be used for recovery or for towing. Thanks.

I had a Class A motorhome with a hitch receiver tube mounted under the front bumper. When I would push my boat to a launch ramp through some big campgrounds, the amazed looks I got from the other campers was priceless! I'll bet more than a few people who saw that maneuver went to a welding shop and had one made for their own rig. Trying to back a trailer that can't be seen with the rear view mirrors until it's almost jacknifed is a real hassle!

I know what you mean, Jerry! Several of our tractors have front hitches and I figured my truck could too! Plus, last time we pushed the truck in the shed; the loader took about a foot of paint off the bumper. Hopefully (fingers and toes crossed) I will get the 270 mounted in the frame tomorrow!

I'm going to make another to mount on our 49 4400. This summer I hope to extract it from our barn and that hitch would make it easy to drag home to the shop.

A piece of 2" square tubing about 10 feet long with a trailer coupler on both ends makes a good low speed tow bar, as long as you've got somebody in the rear vehicle to steer a little.

I agree. What thickness would you recommend? 1/8 or 1/4?
