For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 662 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 662 | I'm toying with the idea of a tonneau to keep my extra rods & tackle boxes outta sight while I'm out fishing. For 47-53 the only place I've found that lists one is www.gaylordslids.com. I'm wary because the pic shows a Task Force (57?) and claims it is the 47-53. Anyone seen one of these in real life or have a pic? Anyone deal with Gaylords or have found another option? I sent a set back to them a few years ago because I did not want to drill into my bed-side rails.

I would build sloped weatherstripping into the edges that would allow the rain to wash down to the stake pockets and tailgate end and keep the inside dry. I don't know if there are any manufacturers making them. I was going to either have it fiberglassed and paint it to match the truck or have an upholsterer canvas it with heavy vinyl. (my dad knows a very good marine canvasser). One can slip a padlock through the tailgate chain slot and have it pretty secure. I think it would also be neat to make the tonneau so it could be popped straight up like a popup camper with tent side curtains so you could camp in the back of the truck. I think there might be a business opportunity for someone here. You see truck tents and hard shell canopies but I have never seen a popup camper shell.
