I was checking my rockers and noticed that I'm not getting enough oil to the front half of the shaft and rockers. Some are getting a little oil but no where near what the back half are. I took it off and clean it all and run wire through the little holes and everything is open. I then notice that while it is running the oil isn't building pressure into the front because it is streaming out around the collar and feed tube that joins the two halves of the rocker shaft. I don't know how that would wear out because it doesn't move. Has anyone else had that problem and where would you get one of those or fix it?
I should have been more articulate, my fault. What year block and head. I want to confirm there was no mixing and matching over the years. It may make a difference. Also, there is a difference in rocker arms from 55-58 and 59-63. 55-58 have a groove inside each rocker arm that directly intersects the dribble hole, while the groove for the 59-63 motors is offset and does not directly intersect with the dribble hole. Do you know which kind of rocker arm are you using and are all the rockers the same?
Some oil does weep out between the connector but it should not be pouring out.
The engine doesn't have any mixing/matching going on and was in a 61 Impala. Casting numbers if I remember right was August 1960 build. All rockers are the same but I do not know which it has. The oil does stream out the bottom towards the back. If that much oil stayed in the shaft the front should oil as well as the back does.
One thing people worry too much about is oil coming out the weep holes at an idle. This is especially true on engines with a flat spot running the full length of the shafts, as I suspect yours does. Engines with shafts with the flat spot(on the bottom side) tend to bleed off a fair amount of oil, even at the connector, like yours. Try running it at a fast idle and see if oil comes out. On a 1959-62 engine you should see very little oil come out the vent holes.
