New to the forum, but not old iron. My tastes do run towards South Bend's finest (Studebakers), but my wife inherited a '50 216 powered half ton, ex Air Force, or was it still Air Corps back then? someday we will have it back on the road.
My main reason for joining was for technical info. I have been rebuilding engines professionally for 32 years ( you get a masters degree, and you too can work in a machine shop! ).
We have 2, 235s in the shop now, a late engine that is going into a '52, and '44ish babbitt pounder. NOS military block and head, modifying the block to accept a late full-pressure crank. It fits a G506 ton and a half Army truck.
And a 289 Stude, 352 Packard, 7 Model T, 2 Bristol 6 cylinders, 2 '28 Stutz, etc, etc,etc

Welcome! Sounds like you have an interesting stable of vehicles. Lots of good Chev. info on this site.

I too am interested in Studebakers though I never had one. Personal story: back in 1960 my folks wanted to replace their worn out 58 Ford so one day Dad brought home a new Lark to try out. We kept it a couple of days then Dad took it back, and they bought a new Rambler instead. For 50 years and more there have been no new Ramblers or Studes.

I am interested in your '44ish 235 crankshaft project. Please share with us the details. I imagined doing something similar in the past myself.

Howdy from Dallas and welcome. I take it you have a shop in or around BCS? Our daughter and son-in-law got undergrad degrees from A&M by the way.

While you're whittling on that block, counterbore the rear main bearing cap area for this seal:

https://www.zoro.com/skf-shaft-seal-3-78x4-34x38-crwa1-nbr-38647/i/G9397674/

It eliminates the rope seal and stops that annoying drip from the flywheel housing dead in its tracks. I have a home-brewed mounting fixture for my Van Norman 944S boring bar that allows me to set up in the rear man bearing bore with the cats' paws and cut a square-bottomed counterbore the right size to press the seal into.
