Will either a 9" or 10" clutch bolt up to my '53 flywheel as long as it comes with the proper pressure plate? I see 9" were used up to '53 and 10" for '54 and later 1/2 tons. Should be original 6v/stomp start flywheel setup.

Thanks,

Thanks. I can get a 10” clutch kit for cheaper than a 9”, that’s why I ask. I’m going to get a new one and have the flywheel machined for the T5 conversion that I want to do this year.

I am having a hard time editing posts, so I deleted it (above).

I think that the flywheel has mounting holes to match the diameter of the clutch assembly (the clutch disc and the pressure plate).

Wait to hear from others.

The flywheel bolt pattern for a 9" pressure plate is different then for a 10" pressure plate.

One can always drill a new bolt pattern in the flywheel.

Thanks guys, I don't want the 10" bad enough to redrill the flywheel. I'm good with the 9"

Measure the contact face of the flywheel and see what that is. The 55-57 235 flywheels for example (not the HD versions) will measure 10 inches yet they came from the factory with a 9.5 inch clutch. Pressure plate measures the same. So you can use a 10 inch clutch plate. So after measuring, if you have say 10 inches on the flywheel, next measure your pressure plate and see where you are at. If the pressure plate you are using with the 9 inch clutch does not measure 10 inches, then you need to find one that is 10 inches and will bolt to the flywheel.

Just asking here, how much difference is there in the cost of a 9 inch vs 10?

Not much as the clutches don't cost much to begin with. One website, $20-30 difference between full kits. Some have the 9" disc only as the cheaper option. I just like the idea of the bigger clutch.
