Do the v8 front mounts line up with the 6 cyl mount holes on the crossmember?. Can i use these holes as a reference point?Also there is a hole on the top of the frame above the brake line on each side. Is this where the side mounts bolt up to?

With all he sheet metal off it is a little hard to get a reference point. As of right now i just have a bare block to work with. I have heard to move it forward 1 inch so the new hei will clear. Do i just bolt it to the motor and "eyeball" it. Or can i put the mounts off the 6 cyl on the front of the v8, bolt that down and get measurements that way?

| | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | no!  that would prolly put it tooo far forward. the HEI could use a tiny bit more room, but I have seen'em used w/ the stock position - might have had firewall tweaked tho. if yer usin a block that can take the front mounts, why not use them? takes a bracket added on the front frame cross member that looks like this - also note the pully is about the back edge of the cross member for positioning. I can measure when it's daylite if ya want. Bill | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | ok John - lookin @ mine & thinkin on it, w/ doghse off & bare block this shot may do it. note the bottom of steering box is about dead center on the xhaust. that's the stock position, and w/ the 6cyl rad mount you can move about 5" forward max B4 the fan hits the rad [also - you'll need to find a fan shroud to prevent overheating in city traffic]. problem I see w/ not using stock position is you'll prolly need to make a drive shaft to fit.
