Is there a way to grease or lubricate the clutch and brake pedals without taking them off? I did not see any grease fittings around the base... Thank you.
I don't think any of the early trucks like yours had grease fittings. Later deco models (1946-early 47) sometimes had fittings in either each of the pedals or one fitting on the end of a hollowed out shaft. One can easily retrofit grease fittings on the pedals themselves. Below are some images of the addition on a 1942 1 1/2 ton Chevy truck.
Thank you for the photos and information... Would the new shaft shown in your photo be available from Jim Carter or Chev's of the 40'S? I suppose I could drill my original pedals and tap the threads, unless you had a machine shop do the work? Then again it may be easier to find the hollow shaft you speak about with the grease fitting at the end... Would accomplish the same thing... Certainly better that what I have now...

Philippe,
Unfortunately the typical vendors don't carry the shaft. A friend made mine for me. I drilled and tapped the zerk fittings, and I am no machinist so with a little care you should be able to accomplish the task as well. The bushings are available from the aftermarket folks, but I found that the dimensions of a piston wrist pin bushing for a 1940-50 something Ford flat head V8 engine happen to be the same as the Chevy pedal and shaft. The part number I used was Clevite 2233451. At the time I restored my 42 truck, I happened upon the bushings on ebay for much less than the aftermarket sources.
Best of luck with your project, those 1939 bigbolts are fine looking machines.
I am not surprised that would be the case...Now, I imagine I am not the only guy with this problem and surprised that someone like you or one of the vendors has not made kits for sale to remedy this problem... Got to tell you that my biggest disappointment has been finding so few parts and resources for these trucks... Even some of the well known vendors when contacted have been less than accommodating, getting the "It is on the website" answer.... But, I only gave you 8 items and I would buy them now! Needless to say, I went somewhere else... Oh well, a little different than the Buick folks, no offense... That has been some of my experience so far while trying to come up with a few things...
On a better note, these are nice looking trucks (39-40) being my favorite years... Can't wait to get some good rubber and be able to go for a proper drive. Thank you for all the help.
