Plain & simply put, what is involved in upgrading to later model tie rod ends on a 51 one ton??

Sid Drapal at Nostalgia Sid's Dropped Axles does this frequently, and he can probably give more detail, but basically the balls on the steering arms and pitman arm are removed, holes drilled for the studs on the new ends, and when he does it, he sends pre-cut and threaded tube to assemble a new drag link and tie rod.

Why is swapping to a non-adjustable tie rod end an "upgrade"?

My 1951 1 Ton came with the modern style tie rod ends and I believe that is what is listed in the GM specifications. Could you possibly be talking about the steering arm joints?
