We have switched to the LS series engines for almost all our swaps anymore but since my eyes have kept me out of the shop I can turn the laptop up to 150% and read up on engines. For ones wanting to simplify the swap by going to a carb it will gain you about 100hp but lose you around 30% in fuel mileage. Figures seem to be 435hp/25mpg for the Camaro-Corvette computerized and injected LS vs 550hp/17mpg for a carbed one. Leaves a decision to make.

How is timing advance managed on the carb-equipped engine? Is there a computer still involved, just not for fuel metering?

Jerry,
I'm new to this and still a dummy but it seems all the ones making dyno runs on youtube are using the MSD LS6 ignition controller. A search of "timing control on carbed LS3" will give details that you will grasp quicker than me. The 4 cam Mercury Marauder (Ford) engine I have in my 34 Chevy coupe has an MSD control unit and it has been OK but not a versatile as I'd like. Before I lay much blame on the MSD unit I could probably look in a mirror and find the real culprit who chose to go with 4 Webers. When I can start doing stuff in the shop again the Webers will be gone and I'm going to try the Factory Five electronic stack injectors they offer on the Coyote engine. Surely they must be better than the Webers. I have dialed in a Weber on the dyno but it took more hours than my legs can take anymore.

This is for ==== coilover

I used to work in Plano , Tx .... way back when.
I would help my older brother in the "Paint & Body Shop" @ Roy Lewis Automotive , in "downtown Plano" ------------------- back, when 'it was plane-o".
also, I worked at the "Gemini Drive-In" , back down Hwy 75 ( Central & Forest Lane), back in my youth. The same Family owned both 'Drive-in's = Gemini & Plano Drive-in.
The last time we were back in your area ....... It's Th' Big City, ...... but that's been awhile by now. (When my Mom passed -- she lived around Copeville, (Lake Lavon at that time).

Brings back some good - times ........................... and, just saying Hi.

(Those guys over on the "SNS site" (Nova site) , sure are going with the LS series engines , in their cars. BUT, I kinda like my 'stock 250 - banger & T 5 tranny, with my Holley '390.

"Carbed LS" is an oxymoron.

I see your point; when I put a SCOT supercharger on my old 40 Ford the engine was no longer a Flathead and when I put Jackson injectors on my 327 ChevyII it was no longer a small block Chevy.

Unless you also installed some Ardun heads, they were still "flat", weren't they? My 47 Mercury had a 4" stroke 51 Merc crankshaft, an 80 overbore, and Offenhauser finned aluminum heads- - - - -and it was still a "flathead!"
