Assume we're talking about an AD truck ('47-'55 1st series)? Short answer -- no. The 3804 bed is 9 feet. To make a 3100 bed work and look right, you have to add 3 feet. Notice the 3804 bed sides have 4 stake pockets versus only two for the 6-foot 3100 bed.

Regards,
John

Thanks John. Yes I was talking about the AD truck. How common was the 3800 with a box and how hard is it to find a box for one?

sstock has the right idea... wink

But if you are patient, you may be able to find one. You are in a better part of the country than here, that's for sure. The 3804's aren't nearly as common/easy to find used parts for as the 3100's. In fact, we caused a bit of a stir at Kansas City a few years ago when we had three of them on the show field together (Joe's, Mine and Jim Carter's). I can't say how hard it will be to find a complete box (only the tailgate, tailgate hinge stuff, and fenders are common with the other pickups. The bed sides, planks, strips, running boards and splash panels are unique to the one ton). You could be looking for a long time or one might pop up for you tomorrow as a result of this conversation, or who knows? Chances are, you will have a bit of a quest on your hands. Worth doing, though, if you have some time -- putting one together from new parts is going to be expensive (we like the Mar-K guys a lot and they have been good to all of us here at Stovebolt -- those 1-ton items are expensive to make and are a low-demand item, so they are rightfully going to cost more). And I'm not aware of anyone repopping the running boards and splash panels for us or the 3600 guys.

Some of the other guys should chime in who've actually had to replace their beds. I did not so I have no experience with sourcing/procuring any of the bed items.

Front bed panel in a 1 ton is similar but not same as smaller trucks. The 1 ton part has an additional reinforcement channel added.

I built my own 9 ft bed. It was a BOAT LOAD (about 9ft to be exact) of work but it was worth it. Like John said, people really flock and like to chat about the ole 1 tons. My pal (Doyle1950) has a tilt bed on his and that REALLY gets attention at shows. In hindsight it might’ve have been faster, better, etc to buy the bed, but I got the immense satisfaction of being able to say I built the box. (Excluding the tailgate and polished strips.)

Thankful my 3800 is a flatbed. I guess correctly a cab/chassis. I'm currently in the process of rebuilding said flatbed. Excited to throw some cattle feed or kids from church to go caroling on it. Fingers crossed that it will be ready by the end of the year.
