Ok, Qubie is a 1935, but she has a 1948 216 engine.
At idle, the engine sounds fine, just like a solid lifter inline six should, valves quietly clicking away. Anything other than idle though, and I get a high pitched discordant squeal, I can best describe as "a dry bearing sound".
I've ensured that the bearing cups on the generator are filled with engine weight oil, and the grease cup on the distributor has plenty of #2 grease.
Unlike the original 208 engine, the '48 216 has no visible (to me, anyhow), oiling points or grease cup on the water pump.
Anyone have an opinion on what the noise could be, and if I should worry?

Start by removing the fan belt and see if the noise is internal or external. Then figure out a way to spin the water pump and generator individually to diagnose which one is the problem if the internals sound OK. It could be something as simple as a loose fan belt.

Better late than never... turns out that it's the throwout bearing. Thanks for the help!
