I am looking for a vendor with the best price on a Vintage Air Sure Fit system to go in my 1965 C-10. Their new place is pretty nioe though. Take care. I installed the Old Air AC in my '52 Suburban (350 crate/TH400)...After reading feedback(this site...pro& con) about the various AC vendors...I selected Old Air over Vintage...easier installation, just as good quality and less expensive...I paid $715 plus S&H (bought it direct from Old Air, Ft Worth, TX)in Sept of last year. Good luck. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 19 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 19 | Steve G,
I'm working on a 48 Suburban and deciding on what to do about a/c is high on my list - it get's real hot in Memphis in the summer! How is your Old Air system working? Other posts I've read here and on other sites lead me to believe that a single up front system won't do the job.I've been considering using the rear air set up from a late model Suburban or similar vehicle as well as either the Old Air or Vintage Air evaporator/bottom of the dash system up front to be sure mine will be comfortable for long (1500 mile) summer vacations. Power should not be a problem with a 6.0l engine.
Thanks, John

The AC system has worked very well and has cooled the front half of the truck. It's still pretty warm back in the 3rd seat.(We probably could have done a better insulation job in the back portion of the Burb). We've had engine cooling problems with the new GM crate 360/330hp. We've added a 2nd electric pusher fan for the AC condenser and that has seemed to cure the problem (knock wood!). By the way, I just bought a '48 Suburban for my next project. | | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 | I put the Old Aire Hurricane unit in my 54: See Here Instalation went pretty smooth and I'm REAL HAPPY with the heat and the AC!

I bought (and got rid of.. ) a '56 a while back that had an un-installed Hurricane inside the cab system in boxes. I kept the Hurricane, and now am dealing with Old Air to purchase the underhood components, and whatever else, is needed to get my '65 cooled off. Also am trying to get them to swap the right dash control unit and vents. I will keep ya'll posted on how it goes. I think it looks mich better with the knobs (especially '55 Chevy chrome knobs) in the bottom of the dash: See Here

It has the all the stuff mounted up high. Just got with Old Air, and they won't exchange the parts (which are still sealed in the plastic bags) I would like to without a receipt. Guess I need to track down the guy who bought the system and get the receipt. Right. Their option, which is ok. I will make the '56 stuff work. Just was hoping I could have been a very satisfied customer and repeat buyer. We'll see how the rest of it goes. More later. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 154 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 154 | Hey Alan, what did you do with your vent outlets, I to put my controls in the dash, did away with the plastic plenum I have not run the outlets, was waiting for the NSRA show in York next week end to look at some aluminum billet stuff. I went out last night for a test fit and the under dash unit won't fit in the '65. I reckon they could have mentioned it wouldn't work when I told them I wanted to put a '56 unit in my '65. Good news is it will fit just fine in my 1939 Sedan. I have read that the Old Air is easier to install than the Vintage Air, but is the ease of install enough to justify the lack of customer service? I understand that I am not the primary customer for the parts I do have, but they seem reluctant to sell me the other parts I need. It has servo motor controled heater valve and dampers, some of the other units are vacuum controled. Zeke

Right now, the vent hoses are just hanging (taped in position) ... of course, the two for defrost are installed properly.
I plan on making carboard kick panels, left and right, to accomodate my speakers ... I'll be putting billet vents there and connect the hoses to those two.
The other two hoses (center) I'm not sure about yet ... I may just shoot them downwards from behind the dash, or I may do some more creative panels when I do the interior and use billet vents again. The round chrome billet vents look cool to use.
