I have a 1.5 ton Chevrolet Truck that had was constructed in Australia in 1940. It is fitted with tyres that have 34 x 7 then 12 ply clearly written on them. Please see the attached photos of the tyres. The tyres are not serviceable - that is putting it very politely. The tyres were probably made when Methuselah was a baby.
I checked online and I could not find any references to tyres with 34 x 7 written on them. Has the unit of measurement changed? If so what are the measurement now described as?
Are these tyres still made and who would sell them?
If the tyres are no longer available what more modern wheel rims and tyres would be a replacement for them?
Thank you for the reply. I sent a similar post on a Military Vehicle Restoration forum and they informed me that 34 x 7 was replaced in 1951 by the markings of 7.00-20. Apparently that size is now very uncommon. I was advised to attempt to find the more common 7.50-20 tyres instead. Does this make it any easier to track down a supply of tyres in the US of A?
Thank you for the information and the links. I suppose it makes sense that the Chevrolet is an American brand so there is wider selection of tyres there.
