good day everyone. I have a heidts mustangII crossmember. it looks like a nice piece easy install. the question i have is about motor mounts. what are heidts motor mounts like? or use a different brand? i plan on putting in a sb350 in my 56 stepside.is there very many options for exhaust headers using the mustangII crossmember ? want to get engine mounted in without being mounted up too high or sitting funny.anyone with any pics and driveline angle recomendations would be greatly apperciated!

hey 56 -

Check out my web page http://www.wsu.edu/apache.html it's for a 59.

There's some pics in there that may help.

When you install the motor make sure the carb mounting flange (top of the intake manifold) is level with the ground. You will need to get as close as possible to setting ride height to get this correct - a little preloading may be in order to account for weight not added) is parallel with the ground - (0deg tilt).

As for headers - I put the Headman Block Huggers on - you can see a pic on my web site.

As for mounts - I used the side mounts from TCI.

I also have an M2 X-member from TCI.

Everything fits nicely - mounts clear the x-member and headers clear the mounts - even the steering shaft will make the bend easily.

56 - see this thread:

http://www.stovebolt.com/bboard/cgi-bin//ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=000451

there is a good discussion of a v-8 swap - including a discussion on pinion angle that is very helpful!

What do you mean by close?

It had to be the exact same width (outside), and length. Height was determined by suspension. Taper on the front of the frame was necessity. Crossmembers went in different spots though.

So - it is the same frame, just that the rails are narrow (wider space between frame rails than stock), are box steel, and straight and NOT RUSTY!

And the body fits - so we must have done something correct!

I used a TCI,mustang 2 frontend in my 55 stepside.I used a motor mount setup from Golden State Parts, item no.6-416,with motor mounts no.6-416MP.Cost was around $80.This mount setup goes from framerail to framerail, just center it and weld it in.A very easy install.I had to use blockhugger headers, for steering clearance.I set the engine height so it was level, placing a level ontop of the intake manifold, where the carb mounts.Of course to do this you must have the tranny in and mounted at the rear to get it leveled accurately. This setup has worked out very good for me.
