I am new to these forums so I hope I am doing this correctly. have a 1954 3100. We have it completely disassembled and will be putting it back together with the original 235 engine. My question is about the transmission and bellhousing along with questions about the clutch. I have a T5 transmission. Tag numbers show it to be a 93+ 2.2 L, S-10 transmission. I have a bell housing (3837001) These numbers say it is a 1957 Bellhousing for both 3 and 4 speeds. I need an adaptor that will combine these two. I have found adaptors on-line but no match for these two. Any information where to find one and also what clutch set up to use would be very helpful.
Thank You

Do you need an adapter? My understanding is the T5 from a GM application already has the correct bolt pattern for our old trucks. Am I missing something?
The clutch disc needs to fit the input shaft, or swap shaft to fit original clutch disc.

I don't think you'll need an adapter but the holes in the transmission will have to be enlarged by a mm or 2. The spline may be too long by 1/2 inch or so and you will have to use the proper clutch disc to mate with the T5.

Also, search up Lugnutz in the User List. He will be your new best friend regarding the T5. He is the go to guru for all things T5 on this site and is very helpful to newbies and novices like us when it comes to this swap. He has a site devoted solely to the T5. I will be picking his brain and combing through his site when it comes time for me to tackle my T5 swap as well.

Ok. Thanks. I will look up lugnutz. My understanding is that the older T5 transmission was the same bolt pattern as the bellhousing. And somewhere along the line ( I am not sure what year) Chevy and Ford used the same bolt pattern and that is the transmission that I have. I have seen the adapter on line. But not for the 4 speed bellhousing that I have. The web site selling them said the adapter was for the 3 speed and the 4 speed is supposed to be a different bolt pattern. I am going to contact them tomorrow. There is a phone number on their web site.
Thanks

OK, long time lurker, never poster

How do I create a new thread?

I just scored a 2 groove Saginaw for my 50 GMC 250, now I need to find a shifter and with Patrick's gone. I'm not having a lot of luck finding options.

Looks like you figured it out.. A word of advise, in relation to your other thread, asking for someone to sell you parts is frowned upon outside the Swap Meet Forums.

Chevy trucks used the same bell housing mounting pattern for all 3 speed and 4 speed manual transmissions from 48 up. This includes V-8's and 6 cylinder applications. Cars changed in 55 to the same mounting pattern. If the supplier doesn't know this fact, they are probably not the right source to purchase an adapter from. You should also get some guidance on using supposed similar bolt pattern applications on Ford & Chevy transmissions. Someone here should have that information.

Those were just Hurst Competition Plus shifters with slightly modified linkage and a shift lever to mimic the original 4 speed one. You can buy them new for about $175 or used for $75 and make your own linkage rods or modify the ones you get.

Scott 54 3100,
Howdy! Glad to hear you are excited about the T5. It's true, I am a self proclaimed T5 addict!
Sounds like you have a World Class T5 from a 1994 or newer S10. It will have a FORD bolt pattern where it bolts to the bell housing.
T5s in 1983-1993 Chevy S10 trucks and GMC S15 and Sonoma trucks have a Muncie bolt pattern for the bell. 1994 and up have a FORD pattern case.
T5s in 1983 - 1992 Camaro and Firebird applications have the Muncie pattern too. !993 and up Camaro/Firebird have a FORD pattern case.
1993 and newer S10/S15/Sonoma T5s are World class.
1988 and newer Camaro/Firebird T5s are World Class.

I have no experience trying to mate a FORD case bolt pattern to a Chevy bell. I know there are adapter plates to mate a Ford case to a Muncie bolt patter bell. I'm just not sure about your particular bell bolt pattern.

You might consider swapping the input shaft. Some S10 input shafts have 26 splines. Most earlier shafts are 14 splines. If your T5 has a 21 tooth gear and 14 splines, then swapping to a Jeep shaft with 21 gear teeth and 10 splines will allow you to use the easier to find stock 10 spline Chevy clutch kit.

I am happy to answer more questions if you can't find answers on my website T5 page. LINK HERE

I recommend you contact Dave Farwell - He will know what adapter plate to use.
