Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,877 | In my experience the 4.10 gears for the Eaton axle will also be found in other trucks. Perhaps many are in those 68 to 72 3/4 tons.... but I’m not so sure why that’s all anyone talks about when looking for the 4.10 gears. Open your search for any truck with the same axle and check the ratios as you find them. Same goes for any axle/gears you find, check the ratio to be sure.
Also check the Tons of fun section sticky thread for ideas on swapping a more easily found 14 bolt axle into your truck. | | | | Joined: Dec 2014 Posts: 357 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2014 Posts: 357 | While the 4.10 gears are easier. I did it. The 14 bolt will work best if you know what your doing.

Another reason is that us 1/4 mile dirt track racers scoured the wrecking yards in the late 1970's looking for those rear ends to run in our race cars. The combination or a 1.88:1 Muncie 4 speed 2nd. gear and a 4.10 Eaton rear end was just right for running on a quarter mile round track. Jerry

I went with a 1985 Chevy Blazer rear end. I had to weld on spring mounts and get a different u-join but it worked. I ended up with 4.10 gears. The old truck would top out at about 53 mph...can't imagine what it would have done with stock stump puller gears in it... Just throwing out another option...
