I'm rewiring my '48 GMC 1/2 ton project which had no brake switch installed. Where is the proper place and orientation to mount it? Pics please?

If it is like a Chevrolet, which I think it is, it is mounted underneath the floorboards with a arm that rests under the brake pedal linkage. When you step on the brake the arm drops and turns on the brake lights.
I have been around more Chevrolet's and that is the way they are from the 40's or before until 1959.
If I am wrong, I am sure someone will come along and correct me.
Good luck with your project.

Here's a picture of a 1949 Chevy, assuming it will be the same as your GMC.

Just plumb in a hydraulic brake light switch and mount it anywhere it's convenient.

UPDATE
My new harness used an electric stop switch. I bought one and installed it. I've since moved under the truck to replace the fuel system and brake lines. My truck was originally equipped with the hydraulic switch. That explains alot LOL!

I had fun most of one morning mounting a brake light switch in my '50 3100. I went to my trusty box of salvaged original working switches and went to bolt it on.
I couldn't get it to work right to save my life. I took it off to replace it with another one when I discovered that the one that I was trying to get to work was made backwards!
Turned out to be from a Task Force truck. Its always something...
