Once in awhile I check the speedometer reading of my my truck, '65 m00stang & VW camper, using my favorite speedometer phone app "Speedbox". If you haven't tried it yet, give it a hello.

Which is your favorite, if you have one?

I just use my Garmin GPS I usually have mounted in my company car. I’ll give “Speedbox” a try. Had never heard about it.

DigiHUD for me too. You can set it any way you want - digital, analog. Simple, and super visible.

And did I mention that it's FREE?

I find a variety of different speedometer HUD's such as XHud, ProHud, but not DigiHUD by name. Who's the mfg?

I also use my ancient old Garmin because it also gives the posted speed limit and I'm too cheap to buy a new one. On most the street rods we do we use the gps speedometer because it's dead accurate no matter what gear changes are made or tire size used. There are very few gps "dead" spots anymore.

Good point on the Garmin - it displays posted speed limits for the road you're on.

I had the wife follow me in our modern(2000) truck when I made the loaded maiden voyage, topped out against the governor on the way home-47mph. I don't have a cigar lighter in the 5700 yet so I hav'nt thought about the garmin. I guess it could run on battery long enough for a test.

78buckshot,
Do you have a cel phone? You really shouldn't need a ciggy lighter in your project rig for this. If your garmin can run without being plugged in all the time, then just do it.

Also, aren't we familiar enough with our local street speed limits? Really need a Garmin to tell you? LOL

I removed the radio block off plate & made up a plate to mount my Garmin in. The speedo function is accurate and I use the Eco Route feature to track fuel use and MPG.
Visability in bright sun is usable, not as good as the OEM speedo but passable.

My truck sees long trips on a regular basis, often 4 or 5 hours from home. I'm in "unfamiliar" territory quite often and tend to miss speed limit signs. My speedometer works and is dead on, but it's nice to be notified by my GPS when I'm exceeding the speed limit (before I'm notified by a cop).

I had a speedometer app on my phone that would also give 1/8th and 1/4 mile times. It was hands free, automatic and accurate, but pointless when running a stock 69 year old 216.
