Hi fellow Stovebolters, I’ve got a 1942 (model MS) 1.5 ton flatbed. I’m trying to figure out what year engine I have in it. Every link that I’ve looked on it does not show the letters/numbers of what I have. Maybe one of you seasoned Stovebolters can assist. Just to the left of the distributor on that ledge where the engine numbers are reads F0214BE. Thats it. nothing more nothing less. From what I can tell, and its an uneducated guess at best....its a 1948 235 Load Master. Any help will greatly be appreciated

That does not look like an Engine Serial Number code format for a 1948 235 Loadmaster:

Your format is more like a later 235.

Post the head and block casting codes, and the head and block date casting codes - they should help ID the engine:

You have a 1960 or 1961 235...

F0214BE

F = Flint Engine Plant
02 = Month (Feb)
14 = Day
BE = Passenger Car with Power Steering and a Powerglide. "BE" was used in 1960 and 1961.

When you can find the head and block date-casting-codes, the exact year of you engine can be ID’d

Mike, was E a suffix used for a few earlier years, also?

I think that I see the E suffix from late 1957-1961 (designating slightly different equipment in some years)?

The OP was asking about suffix code "BE" which is a 235 6-cylinder (60-61)...you're asking about suffix code "E" which is a 283 V8 (57-61 as you stated).

I don't mean to jump on someone else's thread. I have a 235 with the S/N F904B. What I can figure out is F= Flint 904= Sept 4th But I can't find out what the B is for.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Approximately what year do you think the engine is?

That code was used in 1957 for:
F = Flint, MI engine plant
9 = September
04 = 4th
B = equipped with Powerglide transmission

The engine suffix code "B" was used from 1957 thru 1964 to ID the Passenger Car 6-cylinder with Powerglide...

The engine casting date code will ID what year it was made.
