Both pins on my 1953 SM-420 transmission are very loose with both holes the pins go through enlarged due to the pins bouncing around for many years. Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,877 | You need new fulcrum pins - GM # 590282 About now people step in and discuss ways to modify and replace with something not original, and generally drill out the holes (bugger things up) so you could never use the original parts again, I've even done that before I knew better. The following thread starts out that way but ends with some great info on original parts https://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthread...d-up-4-speed-gear-shift.html#Post1194887 | | | | Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 130 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 130 | I put new fulcrum pins in my 49-3100. On the new pins I put a fine thread on half the end that goes thru the housing. Used a Nylon lock nut to hold in place. Has been working for two years with no problem. With new pins shifter is tight. | | | | Joined: Sep 2012 Posts: 306 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2012 Posts: 306 | ** Thanks for the great reply's. ** For those with the same problem with their SM-420 and are not locked in to being completely original the fix mentioned by "Fox" seems like a great idea. Thanks Again to all for the great information. | | |
