I notice there were no figures provided for the American Legion and VFW. I'm a life member of the VFW, but it took almost 40 years to get over the fact that us Southeast Asia vets were denied membership in that organization by WW II vets early on, because we didn't serve in a declared "war".

This is one of those issues where you have to focus on the outcome not the method
I could raise $10 million spending $500,000 (5%) netting $9.5 million for cause
if I raise $500 million spending $150 million (30%) netting $350 million
Which approach gets more to the cause? The saying it takes money to make money rings true. Unless the article suggests that the 34% spent on fund raising is spent on non fundraising interests (Swiss bank accounts and the like) then they are misrepresenting the situation.

WWP has made an effort to clean up its act recently (2016), by firing two top-level executives after a scandal broke over them living large on donated money.

Other charities such as United Way and Red Cross have similar issues that they choose not to address, but since there are veterans' groups with a lot more transparency and efficiency about their operation, I choose to lend my support to them instead of WWP.
