I put my slightly improved health to the test on Sunday . I had the right axle break on the truck , at 70kph!
It took about 50meters to stop and was one of those times I wished I had a dash cam , as the rear wheel (with half an axle attached) trundled on by me .
After calming myself for a while , I waited for a friend to come past , I was sure one would , and yes some 40mins later , .
He took me home and we gathered the necessary parts and tools .
So the axle change was easy , getting the truck up off the ground was more difficult , then I found the U bolts had been ground away to almost nothing , so I wrapped a chain around the spring and axle and tip toed home (25km)
Got new U bolts made today and fitted them .
ALL GOOD ................ phew!
Small panel damage to rear fender still to repair .

Converting a military GMC 302 to full flow oil system. Drilled and tapped oil passage and tapped and installed a plug per the inliners guidance started reassembly of bottom end. Drilled steam holes on an 848 head for installation on a 62 Chevy 261.
Well, I had a set of 4 new Goodyear Wrangler tires installed yesterday at Walley World. Paid to have 4 new valve stems installed as well, but while watching the tech go about his business I noticed that he wasn’t installing the new stems. I inquired why and he said the work order didn’t include them. Off to the office I went to ask what was going on. She showed him that I was correct, so back to the truck he went. In no time at all he was back in the front office to explain that there were no valve stems in the shop of the type necessary and specified in the work order. The assistant manager was summoned and, after being explained the situation, asked me if I could go out to another store and buy some and bring them back so they could finish the installation. I told him my only transportation was up on his rack. I suggested we could get for stems from Discount Tire, but I had no way of getting there. The manager quickly volunteered to drive me there in his Jeep, which he did. We quickly purchased 4 of the correct size valve stems, and he dropped me off at my house on his way back to Walmart. My wife and I had a Christmas party to attend an hour away and I was running out of time! He and I had agreed that he would take the stems back and they would finish the job, then would push the truck out into the parking lot, lock it up, and we could stop by on our way back from the party to pay the invoice and drive the truck home. Sure enough, when we got there after the party the truck was where it was supposed to be, and we quickly went to the service desk and settled up. It was a very unconventional way to get a new set of tires, but everything turned out OK in the end.

Finally took off the front passenger side caliper, got new ones , and installed both sides. While the wheels were off, I tried to remove play (it was about 45 degrees total, or 8 inches?) from the steering wheel... Half turn of adjustment screw did the trick.. did the rear cylinders last week. Tried to bleed the brakes and the calipers barely grabbed the rotors.. the dual master cylinder is old, and I need a proportion valve and residual valves, may just replace it. Still gotta rewire the truck, replace rear main seal, adjust valves, check timing.... Maybe next year.
Actually, this news is a week or so old. Ordered the new windshield wipers from LMC because NO ONE local sells wipers for a 56 year old truck. Since I couldn't get them locally, and the rain was coming, and the passenger side wiper had lost it's rubber..... I had to get creative and pull the passenger side wiper arm. I ran for a few days of heavy rain with just thd driver side wiper working.
I have since received and installed both new wipers. Much better vision now.
I planed the oak boards for my 46 truck bed. Next I have to saw them to length and width, then do the routing on the edges and a final sanding. I am going to coat them with marine varnish.
Picked up a 4:10 rear end for my 1950 GMC one ton today, ending a three year hunt . Drove 200 miles ( one way) to get it. They said it had come in forty days ago, so keep looking gentlemen.

Installed bearings, crankshaft, camshaft, and timing cover on the military GMC 302 rebuild after completing the full flow drill, tap and plug conversion and drilling a hole for the dipstick. Making progress.

I put back the battery hold -down bracket. Its been off for 15 years. TV said I should do it to prevent damage to the battery. Then I looked at the fuel filter and determined it was filthy. I replaced that one with a new one. So I was removing the fuel line from the old filter and when I got the hose off the filter it whiplashed off and the hose clamp flew off and landed on an upper shelf eight feet behind me. Of course it took a half hour to find it, plus I needed a ladder to even search that high up off the ground. Job done. Let's go for a ride.
Been having a annoying hesitation/misfire under load at low RPM. 250 I6 engine. Replaced the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor....no fix. Points and condenser were also replaced recently. Turns out it was a defective condenser...holy crap, a $5 part causing all that BS...
just installed 3100 parabolic leaf set from speedway. I got the idea from looking over posts from this site and finding what big chevy 3600 done. Could not be happier with the outcome!
Built a rotisserie for my AD chassis out of a couple of cheap HF engine stands. Found the directions on YouTube. Super easy! I use my garage for wood working also. All my wood working machines are on casters so I can move them all to the side. On the rotisserie I can now spin the chassis up sideways and move it to the other Side when using the table saw, etc.
Had the day off for MLK day yesterday. Weather was real nice so I cleaned, gapped, and reinstalled the spark plugs. The old 216 smokes a bit and the plugs tend to foul frequently. Fired it up and it ran like a top. Drove it to get a haircut afterwards.

got my new radiator in yesterday on my 58, and also swapped out the stock 2bbl carb and manifold for a stock 4bbl manifold and quadrajet (off another 1967 327). Hopefully, this will get rid of my dead spot and if I keep my foot out of it, maybe increase MPG going down the freeway....
Second wheel painted up, third wheel removed. Tried that darn tight front left again, got one nut broken free but other five still stuck, got another broken ratchet and breaker bar to replace... Oh and found that the gas cap has gone MIA.
I took my 51 four blocks down the street to the High School where we had a 25+ car, neighborhood show. I met some nice guys and saw some very nice rides.
