Sorry Friends,

I'm at a loss, I've looked at most all referred to web-sites, and a lot of past forums, but I just can't narrow down the engine stamp to my 1952-3100. Please see attached photo. I think the engine is stock to my truck,
but I was looking to confirm. I think (based on data found here on SB), that it's a 216 cu in. What say you? Stamped code is " BKCA769609"

Many thanks in advance!

Jim

If you search Stovebolt with BKCA, you'll find several references. That's a 1952 216 that originally came with a heavy duty clutch.

Here's one of the references I found:

Guess what Bolters?

My beloved flame-throwing 216 has a cracked case, I found a ad that claims this used engine is a 261 cu in. Based on the enclosed pixs of engine casting #'s, and codes, anyone want
to take a stab at ID'n the chevy engine? It's bolted to a sm420, the seller wants $300.00 for the pack. Please advise what the engine #'s tell me. It will ( hopefully) go into my '52 3100.

Many thanks, and sorry for not having the band-width to research this myself! PS, the stamped code behind the dist. reads "f02I9H"

The Deve's Technical Network website says that block is a 62-67 194. Can't read the serial number very well.

This 194 is a post-Stovebolt straight-six engine (1962-1967).

The original 194 was the original Stovebolt Six engine : 1929-1932

They were fairly common in Chevy II cars.

Thanks guys, I'm going to spend the evening wading thru forums to decide whether this is a viable option to replace my 216...

Apparently it will work (somehow) in an AD truck according to this post:
194

Personally, I would pass on it and continue looking.

Availability, plus I just found out, what was advertised as a 261, is a 194...Not really warming up to the idea of lower cubes, that's for sure!

The late 194 has 7 mains, so it is about 3" longer than a 216/235.

I don't have any experience with the 194.

How big of can of worms do you want to open? Easiest engine replacement would be to replace the 216 with another 216. You will have some issues if you install anything else; there are many threads on this site where you can read about these issues. Ed pointed out an issue in his post above.

I have a lot of sales resistance and I get spooked when I find out someone is trying to sell me something that it's not advertised to be. Could be an honest mistake, but I worry that there may be other mistakes too.

Thanks for the mental fortitude Bolters! I'm bagging the 194, and on the prowl for a replacement 216, or 235-261...

I am blessed to have all of you to help me, in this life-long quest to make my '52-3100 presentable! Cheers,

Jim
