I'm in process of changing the clutch disc and rebuilding p-plate. I know my rear f-plug is leaking.... is it possible to change it when i get the f-wheel out? Any tricks of the trade? I'm by myself, is there a trick to keep the engine from turning while i brake the p-plate bolts loose? thanks for any help.

Clamp a vise grip onto the flywheel ring gear and let it lock against the bellhousing to break the clutch plate bolts loose. You could also put the transmission in gear and set the parking brake or chock the wheels to lock the crankshaft. You'll need to put a bottle jack under the oil pan with a piece of wood to pad it and remove the flywheel, starter, and bell housing to get enough working room at the back of the block to change the freeze plug.

Yep. I have not messed with motors earlier then 54 but I am assuming the rear freeze plug is in about the same place at the top part of the rear of the block. The bell housing completely covers this plug so the bell has to come off to get to the plug to replace it.

The plug lower right is the rear cam plug.

Back when these engines were daily drivers, mechanics actually earned their pay- - - - - -all $5.00 an hour of it!

Ur right about no access to freeze plug.... its been over 50 years since my last trans removal and somehow had memerious of seeing a freeze plug. It must been a automatic with its bell on it. With flywheel off i got second thoughts about coolant leak. I believe if the rear was leaking it'd be wet in the intersection corner of the bell and the block. Its hard packed dry sand there, not even wet with oil. Coolant is leaking forward of that inside corner dripping off pan lip and further traveling down to oil pan drain plug.

inside bell, dripping coolant & side of block photos. https://postimg.cc/gallery/2wxzb342u/

This now opens up several other possibilities .

Leaking head gasket
Cracked block
Cracked head

Dry that engine off and get in closer , perhaps with some talc to find the leak source .

I've been able to find coolant leaks by isolating the radiator and heater core to prevent pressure damage, and using a pressure tester to jack up the cooling system pressure way above normal. Connect the top and bottom radiator hoses together, put a loop of heater hose across the heater supply ports, and pump the system up to about 20 PSI or so. If there's a seep leak, it will probably turn into a spray. I've even pressurized a block with a garden hose at times to find pinhole leaks!

cleaned and dried rear half of water jacket side, rear freeze plug is the culprit.

If one is leaking, the others will be paper thin. Replace all of 'em! Use brass plugs if possible.
