I am in the process of removing everything from my 54 and I plan to go with a 5.3. With that being said, does anyone know what the value of a stock 235 is with the transmission (I have 2 transmissions for it and was told they both might need a rebuild)? I want to sell it, since I obviously wont need it, but I have no clue what to list it for. It did fire up for about 30 seconds but the carb gaskets are shot and started dumping fuel everywhere so I shut it down, drained everything, and plan to pull it out today or tomorrow.

Mines been for sale in the Parts for Sale Forum for a couple of months with little interest.

Here is an example in the Fresno Craigslist from today.

If I as a buyer can hear it run and do some basic diagnostics like a compression test, check oil pressure, and listen for expensive noises, I'd give $200.00 or so max. Lots of people give stovebolt engines to me to haul them off.

I initially was thinking I would be lucky to get a couple hundred but then I saw one a guy was selling for $700 with no accessories or valve cover. I highly doubt he will get anything remotely close to that but I would be happy with even half that. I guess I could always list it for $300 or so and say obo. I just want to get rid of it asap when I get it out, today or tomorrow, because I don't have the extra room to store that motor along with a 5.3 when I get one.
Thanks for the input everyone. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,971 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,971 | It's kind of a shame, but many a 216 and 235 have gone to scrap for lack of interest. Sometimes someone is interested in one they find out about but transportation cost is more than it's "worth". Martin is right, it's worth what you can get someone to pay.

I am generally in the 100-150 for a non running but basically all there motor, depending on the condition. If it’s a rusty hulk that’s been sitting outside for 40 years, I probably would not even make an offer. 150-225, sometimes 250, for a running example, all of them the 55-62 motors. I have seen the 700sellers. No dice for me. Too much when you add in the expense to do a proper rebuild.
