Am looking for a recommendation for a machine shop in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to over/Haul a 261 engine.

** Update on the rebuild of the 261 ** Had the motor rebuilt by "Allard Machine Shop" in Ennis Texas. Only took a week from drop off to back in my shop. Have not fired it off yet but all looks well. The shop came highly recommended & according to the shop owner they have been in business for over 90 years. Surely that means something. Family owned and operated for such a period of time. Time will tell on the quality of the rebuild. I fully expect it to be a well built 261 & remain in my 1953 fully restored Suburban for years & years.

** Total cost for rebuild was $2,600 with all needed parts supplied by the builder. The orig. head did not require anything other than a normal rebuild. The builder told me the 261 heads were really bad for cracks due to the fact the engine was usually in a vehicle that was subject to heavy loads and torque demands & highly subjected to over/heat. I checked around for price quotes prior to rebuild and found them all over the place some over $5,000. ** $2,600 was more than I really wanted to pay but ended up having to bite the bullet. **

I would be interested in discussing your build. I dropped off a 261 last weekend at a machine shop for a total rebuild, I'm hoping all goes very well. I am taking the SM420 4-speed to a transmission shop this week for a rebuild as well.
