Can someone please give me the dimensions of where to drill to install new tailgate chains on a 57 3200?
Hoping to get the exact location to drill and any other tech tips, like drill bit size etc.

I know this seems like its an obvious answer, but I have a truck that came without tailgate latches, I ordered some and they have no instructions and I cannot find any searching this forum or google. Images do not show me much on google either. There is lots of info for the new hidden latch installs - but I like the chains.

Maybe check the gallery on this site for pictures of similar trucks. At least you'll have a starting point.

Thanks for the reply's. Yes Ive looked at photos. I was just wanting to make are I did it correctly - as my truck seems to have all the original holes cover up from a hot rod era.
I was hoping for something like drill a 1/2 inch hole through the truck sides, 2" down and 1.5" in or something. Ive search photos and its hard to zoom in to get the detail of where the eye hook is attached.

Can anyone hold up a tape measure next to theirs and take a photo?

I found this closeup of some chains installed, guess I'll go with this. I now its simple, but sometimes time spent procrastinating before drilling through good metal is wasteful when you can confidently measure and place an X.

The eye bolts on the frame of my 56-3200 are 4 and 5/8 down from the under side of the flat side of the top rail; you can measure from just inside of the curled edge. And 1/2 inch in from the side edge. They look just like the picture you found. I think the most important part of the location is that you need to make sure that they do not interfere with the tailgate piece with the long slot. As you can see in the picture they are pretty close and mine have only about an 1/8 inch separation. Good luck.

The bolts on my truck are square to prevent turning in the hole which is also square.. They look like those listed in pic above. My truck is a 1959 stepside.
