Hello,

Does anyone know what the original cab heater looked like that came in GMC AD trucks in Canada, specifically in 1952? That is basically the only part my truck is missing. I have seen the GMC emblem in both the blue and red lettering. I would like to find one that would be original to my truck which is the plain old 3-window with the muted blue interior paint and seat.

Thanks.

James

Here are a couple I have with some info. I am not a Canadian heater expert.

This is a page from my 1954 GMC Salesman Data Book (my only Canadian version). These books were published in late 1953 so heaters may be similar or the same for both years.

Brad, I didn't realize there was such a variety of heaters offered. I have seen the first model in red and blue but couldn't visualize how they were installed. That is a great little book you have there. Those '54 era models make more sense as far as fit with my truck.

52vff, that looks like what mine would have had. Haven't found one like that for sale yet, but I will keep looking. Are you able to see the part number on it? It would help me in my search.

Thanks a lot guys for the info.

James

Part # is 5843802, heaters come as a kit, vents, ducts, switch, hardware and heater. Here is my NOS GMC Recirculating heater you can also see in the picture series in this set an Air-Flow I owned some years ago as well (USA models).

Hi Brad, I am assuming NOS means New Old Stock? I hadn't considered that option. Was that an Ebay find?

Thanks for the part #.

You are correct on the NOS definition and yes both were eBay finds.

hi James,
my 53 GMC 9430 1 Ton has the deluxe heater that pulls fresh air from the side vent,

i have all the original knobs and switches in my truck, they are not in the best condition but do give an idea of how it came from the factory still.
i'll be at my farm tomorrow, i can take specific photos if you need, let me know.

Here's the nameplate as requested. As it shows its GMC Oshawa, unique possibly for Canadian market.

Ah perfect, that name plate is helpful thanks!

Having trouble finding new old stock for this heater. Might have to find an old one and get the core rebuilt.

I will PM you "s" about the knobs. Thanks all.

James
