Yes, I know I'm asking for trouble when I ask for "opinions" but I'm willing to accept that.
I was offered a 1958 GMC 336 that runs great but was pulled to make room for a new bellybutton. I wasn't looking for a V8 for my '53 GMC but because this was offered I've been considering the swap. I know the 336 is a de-bored Pontiac 370 but other than that I don't know squat.
What do you think? Is it an engine worth messing with? I hate to ask this question but what is one worth in good running condition?
was it mated to a Hydramatic, or a standard trans? Finding a bellhousing and clutch might be a challenge if you don't get it with the engine assembly. Adapting to the hydro would be a fun challenge, also. Jerry

If that Pontiac engine is the one with the two short hoses from the water pump to the engine block, that pump is extremely hard to find. Not sure about starters, fuel pumps, etc. but that engine got redesigned in the early 1960's so accessories might be scarce or unavailable. Jerry

If you want COOL factor, spend whatever it takes to put that 336 in your GMC. That engine was available in '56-'59 in some GMC trucks. They are Pontiac engines but they were painted a unique, loud orange/red color and had GMC decals on the valve colors. It will never be confused with a Chevrolet V8.

Yep, two short hoses straight into the front of the heads. This would sure look sweet under the hood of my '53. I have a '59 302 I was hoping to use but it needs a rebuild first. The 336 is flirting with my resolve.
