Howdy! I'm fairly new to this site/forum and I'm trying to contribute as best I can. I'm getting a TON of great info as I fix up my '51 GMC 100. As I'm going through years of information on the forum I'm finding the same problem here as a lot of other forums have... the linked images on the threads are broken, either from a old link or the host site not allowing it anymore. This can be avoided by always attaching your photos/images to your post. This site only allows 300kb files and smaller so you might need to resize before uploading, but attaching images to posts guarantees that they will always be connected to the content they're used with. This is so important for automotive sites with so much content related to images.

Anyway, my truck project is coming along great thanks to all who contribute here. A big thanks!

Dan, your suggestion is great. Here’s the problem, we have a large group who, like me, are computer illiterate and have no clue how to post photos, links or any other image hosting procedures. If they are like me they have tried to figure it out with little or no success. The site software is at capacity is the reason unlimited size is not allowed. If the process was easier for us challenged folks I’m sure more photos would be posted. I very easily post photos when using Craigslist but just can’t do it here. Our site owner has tried to accommodate the masses and it is what it is. Thanks for your input.

Attaching images to posts here is very much like attaching images to a craigslist ad. Attach --> Browse --> Select image --> Done. The bigger issue is the file size since 99% of all smart phones now a days take images larger than 300kb. Hosting costs go up based on bandwidth usage (traffic) and storage is really not an issue anymore. IE: Unlimited storage and bandwidth for about $6-8/mo. This site doesn't have enough traffic to worry about bandwidth and I'm sure donations would cover operating costs and pay for some dinners for those who spend the time managing it. I can't imagine this site takes much time at this point.

In my opinion, the solution is hosting that allows for unlimited storage (or way more than you'll ever need) and increase the upload file size to 4-5mb per image. A pictorial "How to attach images" page would probably help most users.

The only reason I bring all this up is because there's SOOOO much good info on this site that could be that much better with images.

Does the the info immediately to the left of this screen ("Posting Images in the Stovebolt Forums" with the image of the blue GMC truck not explain it adequately? We have tried our best to explain the process simply.

There is absolutely no reason on Earth why most of the images we are talking about here need to be posted at sizes that exceed 1 meg. Shoot, 500 K should be more than sufficient. I have yet to hear a compelling argument for why I should have to ask others (or pay myself -- which usually happens ...) to pay for bandwidth allowing everyone to willy nilly throw images (not all of which are interesting or helpful ...) around at unlimited sizes.

You are right -- Everything is better which pictures. So learn how to do it.
