Bought the CPP brand front disc conversion kit from speedway. The instructions were not the best so I want to double check. The only way it all mounted up without hitting the bump stop was to have the calipers mount towards the front. Picture. https://photos.app.goo.gl/5dQuXLnWCnLfEnga9Also, I bought the P/S kit that uses c10 gearbox. When I was double checking the instructions online I came across the CPP instructions. I have the POL kit that is the same as the Brothers kit I think. These two kits have a little triangle piece to weld on. It looks like CPP has two weld on pieces in their kit depending on whether It is an AD of TF. Their TF instructions use just the little triangle piece like the other kits but the AD instructions use one that raises the box a bit more. Anyone have experience with either kit? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 | Position of caliper is immaterial; factory vehicles have the calipers mounted both ways. If you hold the box up in place you will see there is a bolt(s) that have no backing to screw into, this is where the triangle shaped piece(s ) go. We don't use pre-made kits but here is a pic of an extra bolt mounting sleeve (instead of triangle). Having the box in this lower position with the bolt mount in the frame rather than above it helps with keeping the tie rod or drag link horizontal which helps with any bump steer problem. Have seen ones where the Pitman arm was bent to achieve levelness but this changes the geometry and will always take a special part, something we try to avoid. Mine worked on the backside just fine after I figured out the picture. I might have pictures for you in my photobucket Click on my profile and you will see photobucket link on left side.

As for the power steering. If I use CPPs bracket, it will raise the gearbox up where two bolts are in frame and two are above it going into new bracket. POL and the Brothers kits have only the tiny triangle that puts just one bolt above the frame.. looks like just a tad higher than the pic coilover showed.
What I don't understand...
Both instructions talk about the importance of a level drag link. How do both kits pull this off when one has a higher gearbox? The different instructions make it look like they use the same pitman arm. About 6 inches long and 4 inches from center hoke to center hole.
Until coilover showed his way I have mostly just heard from people who used the CPP kit.
Coilover, if you guys avoid kits and special parts... what about the other pieces they have in the kits? Like the Y shaped one that bolts to the spindle? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 1,214 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 1,214 | My 49 GMC was already modified to power front discs when I got it. The calipers were mounted in the front and after repairing/replacing all the older defective parts I decided to leave them as mounted. The brakes work fine and don't pull. There are many OEM brake systems designed with the calipers mounted on the leading edge of front brakes. PicPicHaven't dealt with a CPP kit so others will hopefully contribute. When I did my kit, the brackets are not the same and can only go on the correct side. Once I figured that out, everything fit correctly. Try flipping the brackets, I never had to grind!
Are your brackets straight or slightly bent? Mine were bent. I sent you a PM.
