I’ve got a truck in Miami with a 261 that has running problems, I was hoping that someone might be able to recommend someone who might be able to go take a look and earn some cash

The engine is all complete and will run once warm but will not cold start

I’m hoping it’s just a simple fix

Let me know if anyone can go take a look

Thanks
Mike

Mike,

What is cold in your part of the country? A few simple diagnostic procedures will save you some $ and learn for yourself.

Is the choke hooked up?
With the air cleaner removed, does the choke blade actually move to the correct position?
With the choke open, when moving the throttle from closed to open, does gas squirt into the inside of the carb. indicating the accelerator pump is working?

Good luck,

Ed

Ed, just guessing from his request, he is not near where the truck is located. We have a few “Bolters” in the sunshine state. Maybe someone can help out.

I'm a consultant for an auto inspection company in Tamarack, which is just a little north of Miami. They employ ASE certified master mechanics all over the country as inspectors, so I'm pretty sure they would be able to recommend somebody in their own back yard. Drop me a PM and I'll share their contact information.

Yes your right, I’m not local to the truck I’m in the UK

The problem is a professional mechanic has been looking at it but is getting nowhere, my feeling is he’s used to a more modern engine setup with no chokes or vacuum advance

Ideally I’m looking for someone familiar with Stovebolts who will know what’s missing or incorrectly setup

Thanks Jerry, if no one is able to get to Miami to take a look I will take you up on your offer of speaking to the mechanic 👍
